Clue: the items below are neither grapes nor pomegranates. I find compound words a distraction. There are lists of compound words, and lists of words that were once compound words, but are no longer.. Compound nouns ending in down are usually one word, unless you use an exception (put-down). Compound nouns using "out" are usually one word - "in" take a hyphen.
The list of compound words, and exceptions, seem endless. Especially when writing, and compounds words float by to thoughts of "Hyphenate, or not to hyphenate?"
That is the question.
I know there are those of you out there who write first drafts without editing (bless you). Unfortunately, I cannot stop myself from questioning if it is fly shit, or pepper in the soup - metaphorically speaking of course.
I feel like I am having a meltdown (no hyphen).
