As we march boldly into 2014, we pat ourselves on the back for the incredible advancements of the human race. Meanwhile, it barely computes that we haven't advanced far enough to cure the common cold. We find no outrage at allowing 1.3 million people to starve - many of them children. We are full of beliefs which we hold dear (our own), and a corresponding lack of tolerance for the beliefs of others. If nothing else can be said of us, we are interesting. We see ourselves as the superior species on the planet, yet some of our species can be seen picking their nose. Some could be accused of eating the yield. In the picture above, the reward might taste like bananas.
Most humans believe they are invisible when they pick their nose, as was the case of a women in front of me in a checkout line yesterday. None of us are as perfect as we lead ourselves to believe.
Humanity can be raw and unscripted. Our plot characters should be just as raw.
